What is the difference between a Naturopathic Physician and a Medical Doctor?

As of January 1st, 2010, Naturopathic Physicians licensed in the state of Oregon are able to prescribe common primary care pharmaceutical drugs such as antibiotics, anti-depressants, hormones, asthma medications, and cholesterol lowering agents.

Naturopathic physicians are primary care providers who are trained in the traditional medical sciences, clinical diagnosis, pharmacology, and are experts in drug-nutrient and drug botanical interactions. They specialize in identifying the underlying causes of health conditions and treating them through natural means to achieve lifelong health and wellbeing. Naturopathic physicians are trained to provide truly integrative, individualized medical care.

What is Classical Chinese Medicine?

Classical Chinese medicine is a 5,000 -year old healing system developed from observing the relationship between health and disease. It involves a holistic and critical thinking process based on the idea that no single symptom can be understood unless considered in relationship with the whole person. Chinese medicine uses acupuncture,
Qigong, Tai Ji, herbal therapy, and massage to balance disharmony within the body. Dr. Meledandri is trained to integrate these methods into any treatment plan.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion and manipulation of very fine needles into specific points on the body to therapeutically improve health or to relieve pain. Acupuncture is a generally comfortable experience, and most patients will feel relaxed and peaceful during treatment. Sometimes patients will experience minor discomfort which usually indicates an energy blockage, which the needle will effectively stimulate and release.
